    CO-FOUNDER / LEAD EDITOR

    Branden is our lead editor, with a history of video editing on personal projects for about ten years. A distinct personality that comes through in his editing and creative ventures, he’s determined to do his part for not only the team; but for the client as well.

    Need him to animate a title? Done. Need a series of camera angles cut to fit your vision? He’ll make sure it’s frame perfect. With a history of creating projects from concept to reality, Branden ensures everything he makes is nothing short of being at least kind of what you asked for. (His own words)

  • Evan Thompson-MacKay

    CO-FOUNDER / LEAD CINEMATOGRAPHER

    Evan is our lead cinematographer, A cam operator, and photographer. Evan has a strong background in photography and writing which he uses to his advantage with any role that is thrown at him. He has a passion for storytelling, and a fondness for assisting clients in sharing their stories.

    Evan loves to create a safe, fun shooting environment for all with his upbeat and fun personality. When not on set, or cooking things up in the lab with Down Beat, you’re bound to find him with his co-editor and honorary Down Beat founder Mr. Pippin. 

  • Reid Marchand

    CO-FOUNDER / LEAD PRODUCER

    Reid is our lead producer and B cam cinematographer, who on the odd chance will direct as well. Reid likes to consider himself ‘Mr. Make-It-Happen’ when it comes to our pre-production process, ensuring everything has been thought of beforehand and bringing the shoot together with ease.

    His film situational awareness makes him an integral part of this team, stopping at nothing to ensure the ideal outcome for his clients. Reid also has experience working in Post Production where he worked as an Assistant Editor for the Crave original series ‘ The Trades’ directed by Warren P. Sonoda. Here, Reid used his prior skills in Computer Science that he learned at Dalhousie University.

  • Sam MacNeil

    COLLABORATOR

    Sam MacNeil is a passionate photographer and videographer based in Halifax, NS. Driven by creativity and his enthusiasm for writing, music, and filmmaking. Sam enjoys working on music videos, short films, and photographs, often finding ways to add his own creative twist when bringing ideas to life. During the summer, Sam works on union production, gaining valuable experience in the industry.

  • Jacob Ferguson

    SOUND ENGINEER OF MODERN PHILHARMONIC

    Jacob Ferguson is an incredibly versatile producer/engineer from Halifax, NS. Modern Philharmonic co-founder, digital post-production wizard, and "in the box" mixing master. Jacob has experience in a variety of genres including rock, pop, R&B and hip-hop. Elevating musicians from bedroom singers to ECMA nominees – Jacob has spent countless hours refining the sound of local artists, both on-stage and in-studio.

  • Patrick Wadden

    COLLABORATOR

    Patrick Wadden is a filmmaker & writer from Kentville, Nova Scotia. Patrick is commonly hired on as our A or B cam cinematographer with an unmatched style. Patrick initially completed his degree in Biology before deciding to follow his passion & attend film school at Nova Scotia Community College. Patrick can be spotted cooking or curled up to a good book on a rainy day.

  • Josef Hasler

    SOUND ENGINEER OF MODERN PHILHARMONIC

    Josef Hasler is an audio engineer, producer, artist manager and multi-instrumentalist based in Halifax, N.S . A career live sound engineer, recordist and co-founder of Modern Philharmonic, Josef specializes in the recording and reproduction of live instrumentation, excelling as a producer of folk and alternative pop music. Josef as well as Jacob have worked alongside down beat on many occasions.
